Welcome to The Grove
During the day our guests can usually be found in the sunroom, with 180º views into the garden and across the Wye Valley; and then in evenings gathered around our modern wood burner in the cosy lounge. Upstairs, the main bedroom is a sizeable double; with the other front bedroom able to be configured as either a king or twin beds. The third bedroom has two further single beds - with the fourth bedroom being a box room ideal for a child. And then there is the upstairs bathroom which includes a toilet, basin and our second shower.
The cottage style kitchen is well appointed for self-catering, with an electric oven, microwave, kettle and toaster. And the fridge freezer is supplemented by an extra fridge and an extra freezer in the utility room, which also sports a washing machine. The family bathroom contains a bath and electric shower, with a separate WC next door. With downstairs being rounded out by a games room/snug, and a reading alcove off the lounge with a selection of books for your enjoyment.
Outside, there is ample parking alongside the house (with an easily accessible EV charging point), a patio for outdoor socialising and a small area of woodland for exploring. Deer, pheasants, owls and other wildlife are common visitors to the grounds – which are dog friendly.
The village of Fownhope is a mile down the road, offering a choice of pubs and a local stores. And for bigger shops, both the market town of Ross-on-Wye and the county town of Hereford are just 8 miles away – with the cathedral in the latter being the home of the Mappa Mundi. Looking further afield, the Malverns, the Forest of Dean and the Brecon Beacons are all within easy reach – and we have various books and brochures at the house, containing a multitude of suggestions for walks, sight-seeing and other outdoor activities.
Being an older property, we should warn that the stairs are a little steep, and we do have some low beams. And the driveway to the house takes you up through the farm field that separates the house from the road, so not suitable for low slung sports cars! But with age comes character. So if you enjoy exposed beams, thick stone walls, large fireplaces, plenty of space and distant neighbours, all surrounded by expansive views – then The Grove might well be for you.
